UK event group Hyve acquires London-based LegalTechTalk conference business in first foray into legal industry events
London-headquartered Hyve Group, a multi-industry events company, has acquired LegalTechTalk, a London-based events business focused on law and technology. The acquisition marks Hyve's first entry into the legal sector, expanding its existing portfolio of events across industries including e-commerce and healthcare. LegalTechTalk was founded in 2023 by Mikkel Jensen and Bradley Collins, both formerly of Insurtech Insights. The company hosts international events with panels covering the future of law, including topics such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cybersecurity. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Jensen and Collins will continue to lead the business following the acquisition. Hyve has stated it plans to expand LegalTechTalk's US presence, with the first US event planned for December 2027. Hyve CEO Mark Shashoua described LegalTechTalk as having built a trusted position with leading companies in the sector through a focus on customer outcomes and community building. The deal positions Hyve to capture growing corporate and law firm spend on legal technology education and networking, a segment that has grown rapidly as AI tools have accelerated demand for practitioner guidance on technology adoption. The acquisition has a clear UK nexus: both companies are headquartered in London, and LegalTechTalk's events are internationally focused with a London base.
Why this matters
This is a small but commercially interesting acquisition in the legal technology infrastructure space. Hyve is a listed events company acquiring a two-year-old business at an early but demonstrably viable stage, suggesting the legal tech events sector has reached sufficient commercial maturity to attract strategic acquirers. The deal activates M&A work (SPA, disclosure letter, earn-out provisions if applicable) and IP assignment work (transferring brand rights, speaker agreements, and website assets). The 'why now' driver is the rapid growth of law firm and in-house counsel demand for AI and legal tech education, which has created a commercial opportunity for scaled event businesses. No advisers are named in the sources.
On the Ground
A trainee on a small M&A acquisition of this type would assist with due diligence report indexing on LegalTechTalk's contractual arrangements, including speaker agreements, venue contracts, and sponsorship deals, and would prepare Companies House filings on the change of ownership. Review of any technology transfer agreement covering the LegalTechTalk brand and digital assets would also fall within a trainee's workstream.
