BakerHostetler partners with Clio to build proprietary AI-driven Practice Intelligence Centre as in-house legal AI demand is forecast to surge
US law firm BakerHostetler has announced a collaboration with legal practice management platform Clio to support the continued development of the firm's Practice Intelligence Centre, a firm-built platform that connects enterprise data, legal knowledge, attorney experience, and AI-enabled workflows in a secure, governed environment. The announcement was reported by Artificial Lawyer in its 4 September 2026 wrap. Among the first capabilities enabled by the collaboration is Matter Research+, a research tool developed through BakerHostetler's work with Vincent by Clio. The tool brings together the firm's proprietary matter intelligence and AI-powered legal research while maintaining client data security within the firm's own governed infrastructure, rather than routing queries through external AI platforms. The BakerHostetler-Clio tie-up is one of several AI deployment signals this week. Descrybe's Legal Engine is now available within the Microsoft 365 Copilot ecosystem, and Laurel has also joined the Microsoft Marketplace, suggesting a wider trend of legal AI tools embedding within enterprise software stacks already in use by law firms. NewMod firm Carta Law made four senior appointments across its Compliance and Contracts practices, citing continued growth in demand from asset managers in the US and Europe. On the demand side, a separate discussion is emerging around whether AI will shrink or expand in-house legal workloads. LegalOn CEO is hosting a live conversation on 15 September with , Senior Counsel at Rippling, on the argument that cheaper, faster AI-generated legal answers will remove the self-rationing effect that historically kept business stakeholders from escalating legal queries, potentially creating a surge in demand rather than a reduction. A webinar on 16 September, hosted by and Artificial Lawyer, will separately examine why law firm AI return-on-investment (ROI) conversations remain unresolved.
