UK-Japan Hydrogen Summit calls for urgent scale-up of hydrogen technology to power AI growth zones and meet net-zero targets

Delegates heard that hydrogen and its derivatives could support distributed power generation, low-emission gas turbines, and fuel cell technologies to serve the planned AI Growth Zones in the UK. Evidence presented by Kawasaki Heavy Industries suggested that hydrogen-enabled gas turbines and distributed generation could practically address the power requirements of future hyperscale data centres. Gekkō Advisory outlined the scale of the opportunity and hydrogen's role in powering the AI Growth Zones. A Deloitte representative addressed the growing relationship between digital infrastructure and energy strategy, while a researcher from Loughborough described the UK as well-placed to turn hydrogen deployment into a source of competitive advantage.
